بَرَآءَةٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
A clearance from Allah and His Messenger, [directed] to those among the associators with whom you made a pact.
Research verse 9:1 →
فَسِيحُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِى ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخْزِى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
So move about in the land for four months, and know that you are not ones to frustrate Allah, and that Allah is one who will abase the deniers.
Research verse 9:2 →
وَأَذَٰنٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَوْمَ ٱلْحَجِّ ٱلْأَكْبَرِ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَرِىٓءٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَرَسُولُهُۥ فَإِن تُبْتُمْ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ وَإِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِى ٱللَّهِ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
And a proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the Day of the Greatest *Ḥajj*: that Allah is clear of the associators, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you turn back, then it is better for you; but if you turn away, then know that you are not ones to frustrate Allah. And announce to those who have covered [the truth] a painful punishment.
Research verse 9:3 →
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّم مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنقُصُوكُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَمْ يُظَٰهِرُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ أَحَدًا فَأَتِمُّوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ عَهْدَهُمْ إِلَىٰ مُدَّتِهِمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
Except for those among the associators with whom you made a covenant, then they did not diminish you in anything and did not back anyone against you; so complete for them their covenant up to their term. Indeed, Allah loves those who are mindful (of Him).

فَإِذَا ٱنسَلَخَ ٱلْأَشْهُرُ ٱلْحُرُمُ فَٱقْتُلُوا۟ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ حَيْثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمْ وَخُذُوهُمْ وَٱحْصُرُوهُمْ وَٱقْعُدُوا۟ لَهُمْ كُلَّ مَرْصَدٍ فَإِن تَابُوا۟ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَخَلُّوا۟ سَبِيلَهُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
So when the inviolable months have peeled away, then kill the associators wherever you encounter them, and seize them, and hem them in, and sit for them at every lookout. But if they turn back, and uphold the prayer, and give the purifying due, then clear a path for them. Indeed, Allah is Ever-Covering [of faults], Ever-Merciful.
Research verse 9:5 →
وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ ٱسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّىٰ يَسْمَعَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ أَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
And if any one of the joiners (with God) seeks your protection, then protect him until he hears the speech of Allah; then convey him to his place of security. That is because they are a people who do not know.
Research verse 9:6 →
كَيْفَ يَكُونُ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ عَهْدٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ رَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّمْ عِندَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ فَمَا ٱسْتَقَٰمُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱسْتَقِيمُوا۟ لَهُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
How can there be for the polytheists a covenant with Allah and with His Messenger—except for those with whom you made a covenant at the Sacred Mosque? So as long as they remain straight toward you, remain straight toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who are mindful (of Him).
Research verse 9:7 →
كَيْفَ وَإِن يَظْهَرُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا يَرْقُبُوا۟ فِيكُمْ إِلًّا وَلَا ذِمَّةً يُرْضُونَكُم بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتَأْبَىٰ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ
How [can there be a treaty], when, if they gain the upper hand over you, they would not regard in your case any bond nor any obligation? They seek to please you with their mouths, while their hearts refuse, and most of them are defiantly outside the bounds.
Research verse 9:8 →
ٱشْتَرَوْا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا فَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُمْ سَآءَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
They have exchanged for the signs of Allah a paltry price, so they turned [others] away from His path. Indeed, how evil is what they have been doing.
Research verse 9:9 →
لَا يَرْقُبُونَ فِى مُؤْمِنٍ إِلًّا وَلَا ذِمَّةً وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُعْتَدُونَ
They do not regard, concerning any believer, any bond nor any obligation; and it is those who are the transgressors.
Research verse 9:10 →
فَإِن تَابُوا۟ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَنُفَصِّلُ ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ
So if they turn back, and establish the prayer, and bring the zakah, then they are your brothers in the judgment‑way; and We distinguish the signs for a people who know.
Research verse 9:11 →
وَإِن نَّكَثُوٓا۟ أَيْمَٰنَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ عَهْدِهِمْ وَطَعَنُوا۟ فِى دِينِكُمْ فَقَٰتِلُوٓا۟ أَئِمَّةَ ٱلْكُفْرِ إِنَّهُمْ لَآ أَيْمَٰنَ لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَنتَهُونَ
And if they break their pledges after their covenant and stab at your religion, then fight the leaders of the denial, for indeed they have no pledges, so that they might cease.
Research verse 9:12 →
أَلَا تُقَٰتِلُونَ قَوْمًا نَّكَثُوٓا۟ أَيْمَٰنَهُمْ وَهَمُّوا۟ بِإِخْرَاجِ ٱلرَّسُولِ وَهُم بَدَءُوكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ أَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْ فَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخْشَوْهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Will you not fight a people who have broken their pledges, and resolved upon expelling the Messenger, and they were the ones who started you off the first time? Do you fear them? Yet Allah has more claim that you should fear Him, if you are believers.
Research verse 9:13 →
قَٰتِلُوهُمْ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ وَيُخْزِهِمْ وَيَنصُرْكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍ مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Fight them; Allah will torment them by your hands, and will disgrace them, and will help you against them, and will heal the chests of a people who are believers.
Research verse 9:14 →
وَيُذْهِبْ غَيْظَ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَيَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
and He removes the rage of their hearts. And Allah turns back toward whomever He wills, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
Research verse 9:15 →
أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تُتْرَكُوا۟ وَلَمَّا يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا رَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلِيجَةً وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
Or did you reckon that you would be left [alone], while Allah has not yet made known those of you who strove, and who did not take, apart from Allah, nor His Messenger, nor the believers, any inner-ally? And Allah is fully aware of what you do.
Research verse 9:16 →
مَا كَانَ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ أَن يَعْمُرُوا۟ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ شَٰهِدِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِم بِٱلْكُفْرِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَٰلُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلنَّارِ هُمْ خَٰلِدُونَ
It was not for the associators that they should inhabit / tend the mosques of Allah while bearing witness against themselves with the denial. Those are the ones whose deeds have been nullified, and in the Fire they will be ones who abide.
Research verse 9:17 →
إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَلَمْ يَخْشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ فَعَسَىٰٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَن يَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
Only those who have believed in Allah and the Last Day, and have established the prayer, and have given the zakah, and have not feared anyone except Allah, are the ones who enliven the mosques of Allah; so it is expected that such people will be among the guided.
Research verse 9:18 →
أَجَعَلْتُمْ سِقَايَةَ ٱلْحَآجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ كَمَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَجَٰهَدَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَسْتَوُۥنَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
Have you made the giving of drink to the pilgrim and the inhabiting/maintaining of the inviolable mosque like one who has believed in Allah and the Last Day and has striven in the path of Allah? They are not equal with Allah, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Research verse 9:19 →
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَٰهَدُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ
Those who have trusted, and migrated, and strove in the path of Allah with their wealth and their selves are greater in degree with Allah, and it is they who are the ones who attain success.
Research verse 9:20 →
يُبَشِّرُهُمْ رَبُّهُم بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنْهُ وَرِضْوَٰنٍ وَجَنَّٰتٍ لَّهُمْ فِيهَا نَعِيمٌ مُّقِيمٌ
Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a mercy from Him, and of approval, and of gardens wherein for them is a delight that is established.
Research verse 9:21 →
خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥٓ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ
Remaining therein forever. Indeed, Allah—with Him is a tremendous reward.
Research verse 9:22 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ ءَابَآءَكُمْ وَإِخْوَٰنَكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ إِنِ ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْكُفْرَ عَلَى ٱلْإِيمَٰنِ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ
O you who have attained faith, do not take your fathers and your brothers as protectors/allies if they have preferred the covering (of truth) over faith; and whoever turns to them in allegiance among you, then those are the ones who are the wrongdoers.
Research verse 9:23 →
قُلْ إِن كَانَ ءَابَآؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ وَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلٌ ٱقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا وَتِجَٰرَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَٰكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَهَآ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَجِهَادٍ فِى سَبِيلِهِۦ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِىَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
Say, “If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your clan, and wealth you have acquired, and a trade whose stagnation you fear, and dwellings you are pleased with are more beloved to you than Allah and His messenger and striving in His path, then wait until Allah comes with His command; and Allah does not guide the defiantly-deviating people.”
Research verse 9:24 →
لَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى مَوَاطِنَ كَثِيرَةٍ وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ فَلَمْ تُغْنِ عَنكُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ ثُمَّ وَلَّيْتُم مُّدْبِرِينَ
Allah has indeed supported you in many positions, and on the Day of Hunayn, when your multitude impressed you, but it did not spare you in anything; and the earth, despite its vastness, became tight upon you, then you turned away retreating.
Research verse 9:25 →
ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَعَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَنزَلَ جُنُودًا لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا وَعَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
Then Allah sent down His calmness upon His messenger and upon the believers, and He sent down forces which you did not see, and He dealt painfully with those who covered [the truth]; and that is the recompense of the ones who cover [the truth].
Research verse 9:26 →
ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Then, after that, Allah turns (in relenting) toward whom He wills, and Allah is All‑covering in forgiveness, Ever‑merciful.
Research verse 9:27 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ فَلَا يَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلْمَسْجِدَ ٱلْحَرَامَ بَعْدَ عَامِهِمْ هَٰذَا وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ عَيْلَةً فَسَوْفَ يُغْنِيكُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓ إِن شَآءَ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
O you who have believed, indeed the ones who associate (others with Allah) are defilement, so let them not come near the inviolable place of prostration after this their year. And if you fear poverty, then Allah will surely enrich you from His bounty, if He wills. Indeed, Allah is Knowing, Wise.
Research verse 9:28 →
قَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَلَا يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَلَا يَدِينُونَ دِينَ ٱلْحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ حَتَّىٰ يُعْطُوا۟ ٱلْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَٰغِرُونَ
Engage in combat with those who do not trust in Allah and not in the Last Day, and who do not declare forbidden what Allah and His messenger have declared forbidden, and who do not conduct themselves by the judgment‑system of the truth, from among those who were given the Scripture, until they hand over the jizyah by (their) hand while they are diminished.
Research verse 9:29 →
وَقَالَتِ ٱلْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ٱبْنُ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَٰرَى ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ ٱللَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ قَوْلُهُم بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ يُضَٰهِـُٔونَ قَوْلَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ
And the Jews said, “ʿUzayr is the son of Allah,” and the Christians said, “The Messiah is the son of Allah.” That is their saying with their mouths, resembling the saying of those who covered [the truth] before. May Allah attack them! How are they turned away?
Research verse 9:30 →
ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَٰنَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَسِيحَ ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَٰهًا وَٰحِدًا لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
They took their scholars and their monks as lords apart from Allah, and [likewise] the Messiah, son of Mary; yet they had not been instructed except to serve one god—there is no god except Him. Highly exalted is He above what they make Him share in.
Research verse 9:31 →
يُرِيدُونَ أَن يُطْفِـُٔوا۟ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَيَأْبَى ٱللَّهُ إِلَّآ أَن يُتِمَّ نُورَهُۥ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ
They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses anything except to bring His light to completion, even if the deniers dislike it.
Research verse 9:32 →
هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُۥ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ ٱلْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلدِّينِ كُلِّهِۦ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ
He is the One who has sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of the truth, to make it prevail over the entirety of the religion, even if the associators dislike it.
Research verse 9:33 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَحْبَارِ وَٱلرُّهْبَانِ لَيَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَٰلَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ ٱلذَّهَبَ وَٱلْفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَهَا فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and monks surely consume the wealth of the people by what is null and vain, and they bar [others] from the path of Allah. And those who hoard up the gold and the silver and do not spend it in the path of Allah – so announce to them a painful punishment.
Research verse 9:34 →
يَوْمَ يُحْمَىٰ عَلَيْهَا فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكْوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمْ وَجُنُوبُهُمْ وَظُهُورُهُمْ هَٰذَا مَا كَنَزْتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمْ تَكْنِزُونَ
On the Day it is made red‑hot over it in the Fire of Hell, then by it their foreheads, their sides, and their backs are branded. “This is what you stored up for yourselves, so taste what you used to store up.”
Research verse 9:35 →
إِنَّ عِدَّةَ ٱلشُّهُورِ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا فِى كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ مِنْهَآ أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلْقَيِّمُ فَلَا تَظْلِمُوا۟ فِيهِنَّ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَقَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ كَآفَّةً كَمَا يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمْ كَآفَّةً وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
Indeed, the counted sum of the months with Allah is twelve months in Allah’s writing, from the day He created the heavens and the earth; from them, four are inviolable. That is the upright judgment‑order, so do not wrong your own selves within them. And fight the associators all together, just as they fight you all together. And know that Allah is with those who are mindful (of Him).
Research verse 9:36 →
إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِىٓءُ زِيَادَةٌ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ يُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامًا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامًا لِّيُوَاطِـُٔوا۟ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ فَيُحِلُّوا۟ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ زُيِّنَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ أَعْمَٰلِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
The deferring is only an increase in denial; by it those who have denied are led astray. They make it permitted one year and make it forbidden another year, so as to match the number of what Allah has made forbidden, and thus they make permitted what Allah has made forbidden. The badness of their deeds has been made attractive to them, and Allah does not guide the denying people.
Research verse 9:37 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَا لَكُمْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمُ ٱنفِرُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱثَّاقَلْتُمْ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَرَضِيتُم بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مِنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ فَمَا مَتَٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ
O you who have believed, what is [wrong] with you that, when it is said to you, “Go forth in the path of Allah,” you make yourselves heavy towards the earth? Have you been content with the lowly life over the Hereafter? Yet the provision of the lowly life, in relation to the Hereafter, is nothing but little.
Research verse 9:38 →
إِلَّا تَنفِرُوا۟ يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا وَيَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلَا تَضُرُّوهُ شَيْـًٔا وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment, and He will replace you with a people other than you, and you will not harm Him in anything. And Allah is powerful over every thing.
Research verse 9:39 →
إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدْ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذْ أَخْرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثَانِىَ ٱثْنَيْنِ إِذْ هُمَا فِى ٱلْغَارِ إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَهُۥ بِجُنُودٍ لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلسُّفْلَىٰ وَكَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِىَ ٱلْعُلْيَا وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
If you do not support him, then Allah has already supported him when those who covered [the truth] made him go out, as the second of two, when they two were in the cave, when he was saying to his companion, “Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” Then Allah sent down His stillness upon him and reinforced him with forces you did not see, and He made the word of those who covered [the truth] the lowest, while the word of Allah—that is the highest. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Research verse 9:40 →
ٱنفِرُوا۟ خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنفُسِكُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Move out, lightly and heavily, and strive with your wealth and your selves in the path of Allah. That is better for you, if you are (truly) knowing.
Research verse 9:41 →
لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًا قَرِيبًا وَسَفَرًا قَاصِدًا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ يُهْلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
If it had been a nearby prospect and a straightforward journey, they would indeed have followed you; but the stretch became distant for them. And they will swear by Allah, “If we were able, we would surely have gone out with you,” destroying their own selves, while Allah knows that they are surely liars.
Research verse 9:42 →
عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ وَتَعْلَمَ ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ
Allah has cleared you; why did you give them leave, until those who had been truthful became distinct to you and you came to know the liars?
Research verse 9:43 →
لَا يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ أَن يُجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day do not ask your permission regarding striving with their wealth and their selves; and Allah is all‑knowing of those who are mindful (of Him).
Research verse 9:44 →
إِنَّمَا يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَٱرْتَابَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِى رَيْبِهِمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ
It is only those who do not trust in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts have fallen into uncertainty, so they, in their uncertainty, keep wavering, who ask your permission.
Research verse 9:45 →
وَلَوْ أَرَادُوا۟ ٱلْخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّوا۟ لَهُۥ عُدَّةً وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ وَقِيلَ ٱقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ
And had they wanted to go out, they would surely have made ready for it some preparation; but Allah disliked their setting forth, so He held them back, and it was said, “Sit with those who remain seated.”
Research verse 9:46 →
لَوْ خَرَجُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًا وَلَأَوْضَعُوا۟ خِلَٰلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّٰعُونَ لَهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
If they had gone out with you, they would not have increased you in anything except ruin, and they would have hurried about within your ranks, seeking for you the trial, while among you are (those) very given to listening to them; and Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
Research verse 9:47 →
لَقَدِ ٱبْتَغَوُا۟ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ مِن قَبْلُ وَقَلَّبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَهُمْ كَٰرِهُونَ
They certainly sought the trial before, and they turned the matters over and over for you, until the truth came and the affair of Allah became evident, while they were averse.
Research verse 9:48 →
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ ٱئْذَن لِّى وَلَا تَفْتِنِّىٓ أَلَا فِى ٱلْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا۟ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
And among them is one who says, “Grant me leave and do not subject me to a test.” Behold, into the test they have already fallen, and indeed Gehenna is surely encompassing the deniers.
Research verse 9:49 →
إِن تُصِبْكَ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْ وَإِن تُصِبْكَ مُصِيبَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ قَدْ أَخَذْنَآ أَمْرَنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَيَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُمْ فَرِحُونَ
If a good thing reaches you, it grieves them; but if a misfortune reaches you, they say, “We had already taken our matter into our own hands before,” and they turn away while they are exultant.
Research verse 9:50 →
قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوْلَىٰنَا وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
Say, “Nothing will ever reach us except what Allah has written for us; He is our ally, and upon Allah let the believers place their trust.”
Research verse 9:51 →
قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَآ إِلَّآ إِحْدَى ٱلْحُسْنَيَيْنِ وَنَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ أَن يُصِيبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابٍ مِّنْ عِندِهِۦٓ أَوْ بِأَيْدِينَا فَتَرَبَّصُوٓا۟ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ
Say, “Are you lying in wait for us for anything but one of the two fine outcomes? While we are lying in wait for you that Allah will strike you with a punishment from His presence, or by means of our hands. So lie in wait; indeed, we are with you, lying in wait.”
Research verse 9:52 →
قُلْ أَنفِقُوا۟ طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا لَّن يُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا فَٰسِقِينَ
Say, “Spend—willingly or unwillingly—it will never be accepted from you; you have indeed been a defiantly-deviating people.”
Research verse 9:53 →
وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ أَن تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقَٰتُهُمْ إِلَّآ أَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا يَأْتُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِلَّا وَهُمْ كُسَالَىٰ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا وَهُمْ كَٰرِهُونَ
And nothing prevented that their expenditures be accepted from them except that they covered over (the truth regarding) Allah and His messenger, and they do not come to the prayer except while they are sluggish, and they do not spend except while they are averse.
Research verse 9:54 →
فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُهُمْ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ
So do not let their wealth and their children amaze you; Allah only intends, by means of them, to torment them in the lowly life, and that their selves should be snuffed out while they are deniers.
Research verse 9:55 →
وَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَمِنكُمْ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمْ وَلَٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَفْرَقُونَ
And they swear by Allah that they are indeed from you, while they are not from you; rather, they are a people who are filled with fear.
Research verse 9:56 →
لَوْ يَجِدُونَ مَلْجَـًٔا أَوْ مَغَٰرَٰتٍ أَوْ مُدَّخَلًا لَّوَلَّوْا۟ إِلَيْهِ وَهُمْ يَجْمَحُونَ
If they were to find a refuge, or caves, or any place of entry, they would turn away to it, while they are rushing headlong.
Research verse 9:57 →
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَلْمِزُكَ فِى ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ فَإِنْ أُعْطُوا۟ مِنْهَا رَضُوا۟ وَإِن لَّمْ يُعْطَوْا۟ مِنْهَآ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْخَطُونَ
And among them is one who finds fault with you regarding the truth‑dues; so if they are given from them, they are satisfied, but if they are not given from them, then there they are, enraged.
Research verse 9:58 →
وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ رَضُوا۟ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَيُؤْتِينَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَٰغِبُونَ
And if only they had been content with what Allah and His messenger gave them and had said, “Allah is enough for us; Allah will soon give us out of His bounty, and (so will) His messenger. Indeed, we are ones who long toward Allah.”
Research verse 9:59 →
إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱلْعَٰمِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلْغَٰرِمِينَ وَفِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ فَرِيضَةً مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
The charities are only for the poor, and the destitute, and those working upon them, and those whose hearts are brought into affection, and for [spending] in necks, and for those liable [with debt], and in the path of Allah, and for the son of the path — an obligation from Allah. And Allah is Knowing, Wise.
Research verse 9:60 →
وَمِنْهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ أُذُنٌ قُلْ أُذُنُ خَيْرٍ لَّكُمْ يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَيُؤْمِنُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
And among them are those who cause harm to the Prophet and say, “He is [just] an ear.” Say, “[He is] an ear of good for you: he trusts in Allah and gives credence to the believers, and is a mercy to those of you who have attained faith. And those who cause harm to the Messenger of Allah – for them is a painful punishment.”
Research verse 9:61 →
يَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمْ لِيُرْضُوكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ أَحَقُّ أَن يُرْضُوهُ إِن كَانُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ
They swear by Allah to you in order to please you, while Allah and His Messenger are more entitled that they should please Him, if they are believers.
Research verse 9:62 →
أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُۥ مَن يُحَادِدِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَأَنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدًا فِيهَا ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخِزْىُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
Do they not know that whoever sets himself at the boundary against Allah and His Messenger – then indeed, for him is the Fire of Jahannam, remaining in it; that is the tremendous disgrace.
Research verse 9:63 →
يَحْذَرُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ أَن تُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُورَةٌ تُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ قُلِ ٱسْتَهْزِءُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا تَحْذَرُونَ
The hypocrites are wary that a surah may be sent down about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, “Mock (if you wish); indeed, Allah is One who brings out what you are wary of.”
Research verse 9:64 →
وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُ قُلْ أَبِٱللَّهِ وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَرَسُولِهِۦ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
And if you ask them, they will surely say, “We were only plunging (into talk) and playing.” Say, “Was it Allah, and His signs, and His messenger that you were mocking?”
Research verse 9:65 →
لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ قَدْ كَفَرْتُم بَعْدَ إِيمَٰنِكُمْ إِن نَّعْفُ عَن طَآئِفَةٍ مِّنكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَآئِفَةًۢ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ
Do not make excuses; you have indeed covered [the truth] after your faith. If We efface [the consequence] for a group of you, We will punish another group because they had been offenders.
Research verse 9:66 →
ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ بَعْضُهُم مِّنۢ بَعْضٍ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمُنكَرِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَقْبِضُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمْ إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ هُمُ ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ
The hypocrite men and the hypocrite women are of one another: they command what is disapproved and restrain from what is recognized, and they draw in their hands. They forgot Allah, so He left them out of account. Indeed, the hypocrites—it is they who are the ones who break away.
Research verse 9:67 →
وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتِ وَٱلْكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا هِىَ حَسْبُهُمْ وَلَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ
Allah has promised the hypocrite men and the hypocrite women and the concealers [of truth] the fire of Hell, remaining in it permanently; it is enough for them. And Allah has banished them from His mercy, and for them is a staying punishment.
Research verse 9:68 →
كَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنكُمْ قُوَّةً وَأَكْثَرَ أَمْوَٰلًا وَأَوْلَٰدًا فَٱسْتَمْتَعُوا۟ بِخَلَٰقِهِمْ فَٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم بِخَلَٰقِكُمْ كَمَا ٱسْتَمْتَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُم بِخَلَٰقِهِمْ وَخُضْتُمْ كَٱلَّذِى خَاضُوٓا۟ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَٰلُهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ
Like those before you: they were stronger than you in force and more abundant in wealth and children. So they enjoyed their allotted share, and you have enjoyed your allotted share just as those before you enjoyed their allotted share, and you plunged [into vain talk and conduct] as they plunged. Those are the ones whose deeds have been nullified in this world and the Hereafter, and those – they are the losers.
Research verse 9:69 →
أَلَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ نَبَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوْمِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَأَصْحَٰبِ مَدْيَنَ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَٰتِ أَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ
Has there not come to them the report of those before them: the people of Noah, and ʿĀd, and Thamūd, and the people of Abraham, and the companions of Madyan, and the overturned ones? Their messengers came to them with clear evidences; so it was not for God to wrong them, but they used to wrong their own selves.
Research verse 9:70 →
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَيُطِيعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ سَيَرْحَمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
And the believing men and the believing women—some of them are protectors/allies of others. They instruct with what is recognized [as right] and restrain from what is disapproved, and they establish the prayer, and they give the zakah, and they obey Allah and His Messenger. Those—Allah will show them mercy. Indeed, Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Research verse 9:71 →
وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ جَنَّٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَمَسَٰكِنَ طَيِّبَةً فِى جَنَّٰتِ عَدْنٍ وَرِضْوَٰنٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
Allah has promised the believing men and the believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, remaining therein, and good dwellings in gardens of enduring settlement; and approval from Allah is greater. That – it is the tremendous success.
Research verse 9:72 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ جَٰهِدِ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
O Prophet, strive against the concealers and the hypocrites, and be tough with them; their shelter is Jahannam, and how miserable is the outcome.
Research verse 9:73 →
يَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ مَا قَالُوا۟ وَلَقَدْ قَالُوا۟ كَلِمَةَ ٱلْكُفْرِ وَكَفَرُوا۟ بَعْدَ إِسْلَٰمِهِمْ وَهَمُّوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يَنَالُوا۟ وَمَا نَقَمُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ أَنْ أَغْنَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ فَإِن يَتُوبُوا۟ يَكُ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَإِن يَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
They swear by God that they did not say (it), while they certainly did say the word of denial and denied after their submission, and they intended what they did not attain. And they found fault with nothing except that God and His messenger had enriched them from His bounty. So if they turn back (in repentance), it will be better for them; but if they turn away, God will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have, on the earth, no protecting ally and no helper.
Research verse 9:74 →
وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ عَٰهَدَ ٱللَّهَ لَئِنْ ءَاتَىٰنَا مِن فَضْلِهِۦ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَلَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
And among them is one who pledged to Allah, “If He grants us from His bounty, we will surely give in true charitable outlay, and we will surely be among the righteous.”
Research verse 9:75 →
فَلَمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦ بَخِلُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ
Then when He gave them out of His bounty, they were miserly with it and turned away, while they were ones who turn away.
Research verse 9:76 →
فَأَعْقَبَهُمْ نِفَاقًا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يَلْقَوْنَهُۥ بِمَآ أَخْلَفُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا وَعَدُوهُ وَبِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْذِبُونَ
So He caused hypocrisy to follow them in their hearts until the Day they meet Him, because they broke with Allah regarding what they had promised Him, and because they used to lie.
Research verse 9:77 →
أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَىٰهُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَّٰمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ
Have they not known that Allah knows their hidden (inner) matter and their confidential talk, and that Allah is an All-Knower of the unseen realms?
Research verse 9:78 →
ٱلَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ ٱلْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِى ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ إِلَّا جُهْدَهُمْ فَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنْهُمْ سَخِرَ ٱللَّهُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Those who jab at the volunteers from among the believers regarding the truthful-givings, and those who find nothing except their utmost effort, then they ridicule them—Allah has ridiculed them, and for them is a painful punishment.
Research verse 9:79 →
ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِن تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
Seek covering-forgiveness for them or do not seek covering-forgiveness for them; if you seek covering-forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will never cover-forgive them. That is because they covered-over (the truth regarding) Allah and His messenger, and Allah does not guide the defiantly-deviating people.
Research verse 9:80 →
فَرِحَ ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلَٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوٓا۟ أَن يُجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَنفِرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَرِّ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّا لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ يَفْقَهُونَ
Those left behind rejoiced in their sitting back away from the Messenger of Allah, and they disliked that they should strive with their wealth and their selves in the path of Allah, and they said, “Do not go forth in the heat.” Say, “The fire of Jahannam is more intense in heat,” if only they were to understand.
Research verse 9:81 →
فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟ قَلِيلًا وَلْيَبْكُوا۟ كَثِيرًا جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
So let them laugh for a little, and let them weep for much, as a recompense for what they used to earn.
Research verse 9:82 →
فَإِن رَّجَعَكَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَىٰ طَآئِفَةٍ مِّنْهُمْ فَٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ لِلْخُرُوجِ فَقُل لَّن تَخْرُجُوا۟ مَعِىَ أَبَدًا وَلَن تُقَٰتِلُوا۟ مَعِىَ عَدُوًّا إِنَّكُمْ رَضِيتُم بِٱلْقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَٱقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَٰلِفِينَ
So if Allah brings you back to a group from among them, and they ask your permission for the going out, then say, “You will never go out with me at all, and you will never engage in fighting an enemy along with me. You were indeed content with staying seated the first time, so stay seated with those left behind.”
Research verse 9:83 →
وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰٓ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدًا وَلَا تَقُمْ عَلَىٰ قَبْرِهِۦٓ إِنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ
And do not perform ṣalāh over any one of them who has died, ever, nor stand over his grave. Indeed, they covered up (the truth regarding) Allah and His messenger, and they died while they were defiantly outside (the bounds).
Research verse 9:84 →
وَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَأَوْلَٰدُهُمْ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ
And do not let their wealth and their children impress you; Allah only intends to punish them by means of them in this nearer life, and that their selves should depart while they are deniers.
Research verse 9:85 →
وَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ أَنْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ مَعَ رَسُولِهِ ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَكَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلطَّوْلِ مِنْهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ ذَرْنَا نَكُن مَّعَ ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ
And whenever a chapter is sent down [saying]: “Believe in Allah and strive along with His messenger,” those among them endowed with advantage ask your permission, and they say, “Leave us, that we may be with those who remain seated.”
Research verse 9:86 →
رَضُوا۟ بِأَن يَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ
They were content to be with those who stay behind, and a seal was set upon their hearts, so they do not comprehend.
Research verse 9:87 →
لَٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ جَٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلْخَيْرَٰتُ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
But the Messenger and those who believed with him strove with their wealth and their selves; and those — for them are the good things, and those — they are the ones who prosper.
Research verse 9:88 →
أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, remaining therein; that is the tremendous success.
Research verse 9:89 →
وَجَآءَ ٱلْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ لِيُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ سَيُصِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
And the excuse‑makers from among the desert‑dwellers came so that permission might be given to them, while those who lied to Allah and His Messenger stayed back. Those who covered [the truth] among them will soon be reached by a painful punishment.
Research verse 9:90 →
لَّيْسَ عَلَى ٱلضُّعَفَآءِ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْمَرْضَىٰ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ مَا يُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ مَا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ مِن سَبِيلٍ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
There is no constraint upon the weak, nor upon the sick, nor upon those who do not find anything to spend, when they are sincere for Allah and His Messenger. There is no way (of blame) upon the doers of good. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Research verse 9:91 →
وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا مَآ أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قُلْتَ لَآ أَجِدُ مَآ أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ تَوَلَّوا۟ وَّأَعْيُنُهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمْعِ حَزَنًا أَلَّا يَجِدُوا۟ مَا يُنفِقُونَ
And there is no [blame] upon those who, whenever they came to you for you to carry them, you said, “I do not find anything on which I can carry you,” so they turned away while their eyes overflowed with tears, out of sorrow that they did not find anything to spend.
Research verse 9:92 →
إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَـْٔذِنُونَكَ وَهُمْ أَغْنِيَآءُ رَضُوا۟ بِأَن يَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَوَالِفِ وَطَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
The path (of blame) is only against those who ask your permission while they are well‑off: they were content to be with those who stay behind, and Allah has imprinted upon their hearts, so they do not know.
Research verse 9:93 →
يَعْتَذِرُونَ إِلَيْكُمْ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ قُل لَّا تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكُمْ قَدْ نَبَّأَنَا ٱللَّهُ مِنْ أَخْبَارِكُمْ وَسَيَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
They will seek to be excused before you when you return to them. Say, “Do not seek to be excused; we will never put faith in you. Allah has already informed us of some of your reports, and Allah will see your deed, and [so will] His Messenger. Then you will be turned back to the Knower of the hidden and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you had been doing.”
Research verse 9:94 →
سَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمْ إِذَا ٱنقَلَبْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لِتُعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمْ فَأَعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ رِجْسٌ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
They will surely swear by Allah to you, when you have turned back to them, so that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them; indeed, they are filth, and their shelter is Jahannam, as a recompense for what they used to earn.
Research verse 9:95 →
يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْا۟ عَنْهُمْ فَإِن تَرْضَوْا۟ عَنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَرْضَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
They swear to you so that you may be pleased with them; but even if you are pleased with them, indeed Allah is not pleased with the defiantly-deviating people.
Research verse 9:96 →
ٱلْأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرًا وَنِفَاقًا وَأَجْدَرُ أَلَّا يَعْلَمُوا۟ حُدُودَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
The desert‑dwellers are more intense in denial and hypocrisy, and more apt not to know the bounds of what Allah has sent down upon His messenger; and Allah is All‑Knowing, All‑Wise.
Research verse 9:97 →
وَمِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ مَغْرَمًا وَيَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ ٱلدَّوَآئِرَ عَلَيْهِمْ دَآئِرَةُ ٱلسَّوْءِ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
And among the desert‑dwellers is one who regards what he spends as a penal burden, and he lies in wait for the cycles (of misfortune) against you. Upon them is the cycle of evil. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing.
Research verse 9:98 →
وَمِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَيَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ قُرُبَٰتٍ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَصَلَوَٰتِ ٱلرَّسُولِ أَلَآ إِنَّهَا قُرْبَةٌ لَّهُمْ سَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
And among the bedouins is one who trusts in Allah and the Last Day, and takes what he spends as means of drawing near to Allah and [as seeking] the prayers of the Messenger. Behold, it is indeed a means of nearness for them. Allah will soon admit them into His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Research verse 9:99 →
وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ وَٱلْأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِإِحْسَٰنٍ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٍ تَجْرِى تَحْتَهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
And the foremost, the first ones, from among the emigrants and the supporters, and those who followed them with excellence – Allah has been pleased with them, and they have been pleased with Him, and He has made ready for them gardens beneath which the rivers flow, remaining therein forever and ever. That is the tremendous success.
Research verse 9:100 →
وَمِمَّنْ حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مُنَٰفِقُونَ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ مَرَدُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنِّفَاقِ لَا تَعْلَمُهُمْ نَحْنُ نَعْلَمُهُمْ سَنُعَذِّبُهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ عَظِيمٍ
And from those around you of the desert‑Arabs are hypocrites, and from the people of the City [too]—they have persisted upon hypocrisy. You do not know them; We know them. We shall punish them twice, then they will be turned back to a tremendous punishment.
Research verse 9:101 →
وَءَاخَرُونَ ٱعْتَرَفُوا۟ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ خَلَطُوا۟ عَمَلًا صَٰلِحًا وَءَاخَرَ سَيِّئًا عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
And others have acknowledged their tails (liabilities) — they mixed a sound deed and another that was bad. It may be that Allah will turn back toward them; indeed, Allah is All‑Covering (in forgiveness), Ever‑Merciful.
Research verse 9:102 →
خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَّهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
Take from their wealth a ṣadaqah by which you cleanse them and cause them to grow through it; and *ṣalli* over them—for your ṣalawāt are a stilling reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing.
Research verse 9:103 →
أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ يَقْبَلُ ٱلتَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَأْخُذُ ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Have they not known that it is Allah—He who accepts the turning-back (repentance) from His servants and takes the charities—and that it is Allah—He who is the Oft-Turning, the Merciful?
Research verse 9:104 →
وَقُلِ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ فَسَيَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
And say, “Work, for Allah will soon see your work, and His messenger and the believers [will see it as well]. And you will be returned to the Knower of the hidden and the witnessed, then He will inform you of what you had been doing.”
Research verse 9:105 →
وَءَاخَرُونَ مُرْجَوْنَ لِأَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ إِمَّا يُعَذِّبُهُمْ وَإِمَّا يَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
And others are postponed for Allah’s decision: either He will punish them, or He will turn back toward them, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
Research verse 9:106 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مَسْجِدًا ضِرَارًا وَكُفْرًا وَتَفْرِيقًۢا بَيْنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِرْصَادًا لِّمَنْ حَارَبَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ إِنْ أَرَدْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
And those who took up a place of prostration as [a means of] harming, and [of] covering [the truth], and [of] splitting apart between the believers, and as an ambush-point for whoever had waged war against Allah and His messenger before — they will surely swear, “We intended nothing but what is excellent,” while Allah bears witness that they are indeed liars.
Research verse 9:107 →
لَا تَقُمْ فِيهِ أَبَدًا لَّمَسْجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ مِنْ أَوَّلِ يَوْمٍ أَحَقُّ أَن تَقُومَ فِيهِ فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَن يَتَطَهَّرُوا۟ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُطَّهِّرِينَ
Do not stand in it ever. A place of sujūd that was founded upon conscientious guarding (against Allah) from the very first day is more entitled that you stand in it. In it are men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves thoroughly.
Research verse 9:108 →
أَفَمَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ تَقْوَىٰ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضْوَٰنٍ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍ فَٱنْهَارَ بِهِۦ فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
So is one who laid the foundation of his structure upon a wariness from Allah and approval [from Him] better, or one who laid the foundation of his structure upon the brink of a crumbling bank, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Jahannam? And Allah does not guide the people who darken [with injustice].
Research verse 9:109 →
لَا يَزَالُ بُنْيَٰنُهُمُ ٱلَّذِى بَنَوْا۟ رِيبَةً فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
Their structure which they built will not cease to be a disturbance in their hearts, until their hearts are torn apart. And Allah is Knowing, Wise.
Research verse 9:110 →
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱشْتَرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيَقْتُلُونَ وَيُقْتَلُونَ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّا فِى ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَٱلْإِنجِيلِ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَمَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِۦ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ فَٱسْتَبْشِرُوا۟ بِبَيْعِكُمُ ٱلَّذِى بَايَعْتُم بِهِۦ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
Allah has indeed bought from the believers their selves and their wealth, in that the Garden is for them: they engage in mutual fighting in the path of Allah, so they kill and are killed — a promise upon Him, truly, in the Torah and the Gospel and the Recitation. And who is more fulfilling of his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your sale which you have contracted by it, and that is the tremendous success.
Research verse 9:111 →
ٱلتَّٰٓئِبُونَ ٱلْعَٰبِدُونَ ٱلْحَٰمِدُونَ ٱلسَّٰٓئِحُونَ ٱلرَّٰكِعُونَ ٱلسَّٰجِدُونَ ٱلْـَٔامِرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱلنَّاهُونَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱلْحَٰفِظُونَ لِحُدُودِ ٱللَّهِ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
The ones who turn back, the servants, the praisers, the travelers, the bowers, the prostrators, those who command with the acknowledged and restrain from the disapproved, and those who guard the limits of Allah — and give good news to the believers.
Research verse 9:112 →
مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِىِّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَن يَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوٓا۟ أُو۟لِى قُرْبَىٰ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
It was not for the prophet and those who had believed to seek covering-forgiveness for the joiners-of-partners, even if they were possessors of close kinship, after it had become clear to them that they are companions of the Blaze.
Research verse 9:113 →
وَمَا كَانَ ٱسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوْعِدَةٍ وَعَدَهَآ إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُۥٓ أَنَّهُۥ عَدُوٌّ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ إِنَّ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لَأَوَّٰهٌ حَلِيمٌ
And the seeking of forgiveness by Abraham for his father was only on account of a promise he had promised him; then when it became clear to him that he was an enemy to God, he disowned him. Indeed, Abraham is surely oft-sighing, forbearing.
Research verse 9:114 →
وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُضِلَّ قَوْمًۢا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَىٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُبَيِّنَ لَهُم مَّا يَتَّقُونَ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
And it has not been Allah’s way to let a people go astray after He has guided them, until He makes clear to them what they are to be wary of. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of every thing.
Research verse 9:115 →
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
Indeed, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death. And you have, apart from Allah, no ally and no helper.
Research verse 9:116 →
لَّقَد تَّابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ وَٱلْأَنصَارِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ فِى سَاعَةِ ٱلْعُسْرَةِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا كَادَ يَزِيغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِيقٍ مِّنْهُمْ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّهُۥ بِهِمْ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Indeed, Allah has certainly turned back (in acceptance) towards the Prophet, and the emigrants, and the helpers—those who followed him in the hour of hardship—after the hearts of a group among them nearly swerved; then He turned back towards them. Surely, He is to them most gentle, ever‑merciful.
Research verse 9:117 →
وَعَلَى ٱلثَّلَٰثَةِ ٱلَّذِينَ خُلِّفُوا۟ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَن لَّا مَلْجَأَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّآ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَتُوبُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
And upon the three who were left behind, until, when the earth, despite its vastness, became tight for them, and their own selves became tight for them, and they became convinced that there is no shelter from Allah except to Him, then He turned back toward them so that they might turn back. Indeed, Allah—He is the Oft‑Turning‑Back, the Merciful.
Research verse 9:118 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
O you who have attained faith, preserve your cautiousness of Allah, and be with the truthful.
Research verse 9:119 →
مَا كَانَ لِأَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ أَن يَتَخَلَّفُوا۟ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَرْغَبُوا۟ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ لَا يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌ وَلَا نَصَبٌ وَلَا مَخْمَصَةٌ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَطَـُٔونَ مَوْطِئًا يَغِيظُ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَلَا يَنَالُونَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ نَّيْلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلٌ صَٰلِحٌ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
It was not [fitting] for the people of the City and those around them from the desert‑dwellers that they stay back from the Messenger of Allah, nor that they incline with their own selves away from his self. That is because no thirst, nor fatigue, nor hunger befalls them in the path of Allah, and they do not set foot on any footing that enrages the deniers, and they do not attain from an enemy any attainment, except that there is written for them by it a righteous deed. Indeed, Allah does not let go to waste the reward of the doers of good.
Research verse 9:120 →
وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَةً صَغِيرَةً وَلَا كَبِيرَةً وَلَا يَقْطَعُونَ وَادِيًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمْ لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
And they do not expend any expenditure, small or great, and they do not traverse any valley, but it is written for them, so that Allah may recompense them with the best of what they used to do.
Research verse 9:121 →
وَمَا كَانَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لِيَنفِرُوا۟ كَآفَّةً فَلَوْلَا نَفَرَ مِن كُلِّ فِرْقَةٍ مِّنْهُمْ طَآئِفَةٌ لِّيَتَفَقَّهُوا۟ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَلِيُنذِرُوا۟ قَوْمَهُمْ إِذَا رَجَعُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَحْذَرُونَ
And the believers were not to go out all together. So why did not, from every group among them, a contingent go out, so that they may gain deep understanding in the judgment‑way, and so that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they might be wary?
Research verse 9:122 →
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يَلُونَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ وَلْيَجِدُوا۟ فِيكُمْ غِلْظَةً وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
O you who have believed, combat those of the concealers (of truth) who are nearest to you, and let them find in you sternness; and know that Allah is with those who are mindful (of Him).
Research verse 9:123 →
وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ فَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ أَيُّكُمْ زَادَتْهُ هَٰذِهِۦٓ إِيمَٰنًا فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فَزَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَٰنًا وَهُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
And whenever a sūrah is sent down, then among them is one who says, “Which of you has this increased in trust/faith?” So as for those who have trusted/believed, it has increased them in trust/faith, and they are rejoicing in good news.
Research verse 9:124 →
وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَتْهُمْ رِجْسًا إِلَىٰ رِجْسِهِمْ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ
And as for those in whose hearts is sickness, it has increased them in filth upon their filth, and they died while they were deniers.
Research verse 9:125 →
أَوَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُمْ يُفْتَنُونَ فِى كُلِّ عَامٍ مَّرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لَا يَتُوبُونَ وَلَا هُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ
Do they not see that they are being put to trial, every year once or twice? Then they do not turn back, nor do they take heed.
Research verse 9:126 →
وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ نَّظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ هَلْ يَرَىٰكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ ثُمَّ ٱنصَرَفُوا۟ صَرَفَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ
And whenever a chapter is sent down, some of them look at others, “Is anyone seeing you?” then they turned away. Allah turned their hearts away because they are a people who do not comprehend.
Research verse 9:127 →
لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ
There has indeed come to you a messenger from among your own selves: burdensome upon him is what you undergo in hardship; he is intensely keen for you; towards the believers he is most gentle, most merciful.
Research verse 9:128 →
فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
So if they turn away, then say, “Allah is enough for me. There is no god except Him. Upon Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the tremendous Throne.”
Research verse 9:129 →
