Surah At-Tawbah (9:42)
لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًا قَرِيبًا وَسَفَرًا قَاصِدًا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ يُهْلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
If it had been a nearby prospect and a straightforward journey, they would indeed have followed you; but the stretch became distant for them. And they will swear by Allah, “If we were able, we would surely have gone out with you,” destroying their own selves, while Allah knows that they are surely liars.
