يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
O you who is wrapped up,
Research verse 74:1 →
قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
Rise, then warn.
Research verse 74:2 →
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
And your Lord, so magnify.
Research verse 74:3 →
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
And your garments—so purify [them].
Research verse 74:4 →
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
And the torment, so abandon.
Research verse 74:5 →
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
And do not bestow (a favor) seeking to make (it) abundant.
Research verse 74:6 →
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
And for your Lord, then, endure.
Research verse 74:7 →
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
Then when it is struck on the trumpet,
Research verse 74:8 →
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
Then that Day, it will be a hard Day.
Research verse 74:9 →
عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
upon the deniers, not easy.
Research verse 74:10 →
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
Leave Me alone with the one I created as a solitary [individual].
Research verse 74:11 →
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
and I assigned for him wealth extended
Research verse 74:12 →
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
and sons as witnesses
Research verse 74:13 →
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
and I smoothed [things] out for him thoroughly,
Research verse 74:14 →
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
Then he aspires that I should increase [for him].
Research verse 74:15 →
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
No indeed! He has been an opponent to Our signs.
Research verse 74:16 →
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
I will burden him with a steep ascent.
Research verse 74:17 →
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
Indeed, he pondered and determined.
Research verse 74:18 →
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
So he is slain—how he determined!
Research verse 74:19 →
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
Then he is killed—how (terribly) he calculated!

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
Then he looked.
Research verse 74:21 →
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Then he frowned and his face became grim.
Research verse 74:22 →
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
Then he turned his back and acted arrogantly.
Research verse 74:23 →
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
So he said, “This is nothing but magic being passed down.”
Research verse 74:24 →
إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
This is nothing but the speech of a human.
Research verse 74:25 →
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
I will soon make him burn in Saqar.
Research verse 74:26 →
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
And what has made you realize what Saqar is?
Research verse 74:27 →
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
It does not let remain, nor does it leave.
Research verse 74:28 →
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
Scorching for the human beings.
Research verse 74:29 →
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
Over it are nineteen.
Research verse 74:30 →
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَٰٓئِكَةً وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَٰنًا وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
And We have not appointed the companions of the Fire except as angels, and We have not made their number except as a trial for those who have covered [the truth]—so that those who were given the Scripture may attain certainty, and those who have attained faith may increase in faith, and so that those who were given the Scripture and the believers may not fall into doubt, and so that those in whose hearts is a sickness, and the deniers, may say, “What did God intend by this likeness?” Thus does God let sink [into error] whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord except He, and it is nothing but a reminder for humankind.
Research verse 74:31 →
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
No indeed, and [by] the moon,
Research verse 74:32 →
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
And by the night when it turns its back,
Research verse 74:33 →
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
And by the morning when it becomes radiant,
Research verse 74:34 →
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
Indeed, it is surely one of the great [things].
Research verse 74:35 →
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
As a warner to humankind,
Research verse 74:36 →
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
For whoever among you wishes to advance or to fall back.

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
Every soul is held in pledge for what it has earned.
Research verse 74:38 →
إِلَّآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
Except the companions of the right.
Research verse 74:39 →
فِى جَنَّٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
In gardens, they ask one another,
Research verse 74:40 →
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
about the criminals,
Research verse 74:41 →
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
“What caused you to enter into Saqar?”
Research verse 74:42 →
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
They will say, “We were not among those who perform the prayer.”
Research verse 74:43 →
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
And we were not ones who fed the needy.
Research verse 74:44 →
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
And we used to plunge along with those who plunge,
Research verse 74:45 →
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
And we used to deny the Day of Judgment.
Research verse 74:46 →
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
until certainty came to us.
Research verse 74:47 →
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ
So the intercession of the interceders will not benefit them.
Research verse 74:48 →
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
So what is [wrong] with them, that from the Reminder they are turning away?
Research verse 74:49 →
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
As though they were donkeys, bolting in fright,
Research verse 74:50 →
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
fleeing from a hunter.
Research verse 74:51 →
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
No; rather, every man among them wants that pages be brought to him, spread open.
Research verse 74:52 →
كَلَّا بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
No indeed; rather, they do not fear the Later [Life].
Research verse 74:53 →
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
No indeed; it is surely a reminder.
Research verse 74:54 →
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
So whoever wishes may take heed of it.
Research verse 74:55 →
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
And they do not remember except if Allah wills. He is the One entitled to conscientious wariness, and entitled to covering-over (of faults).
