سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
A questioner asked for a punishment that is sure to befall,
Research verse 70:1 →
لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
For the concealers (of truth), it has no repeller.
Research verse 70:2 →
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
from Allah, possessor of the ascents
Research verse 70:3 →
تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a Day whose measured span is fifty thousand years.
Research verse 70:4 →
فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
So endure with a beautiful endurance.
Research verse 70:5 →
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
Indeed, they perceive it as distant,
Research verse 70:6 →
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
while We see it as near.
Research verse 70:7 →
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
On the Day the sky will be like molten dregs,
Research verse 70:8 →
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
and the mountains will become like dyed wool,
Research verse 70:9 →
وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
And no close companion will ask (about) a close companion.
Research verse 70:10 →
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
They will be made to see them; the criminal will wish that he could ransom himself from the punishment of that Day with his children,
Research verse 70:11 →
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
and his female companion and his brother
Research verse 70:12 →
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
and his close clan that shelters him
Research verse 70:13 →
وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
and everyone on the earth altogether, then it would deliver him.
Research verse 70:14 →
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
No indeed; it is certainly Laza.
Research verse 70:15 →
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
tearing away the extremities
Research verse 70:16 →
تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
It calls whoever has turned his back and turned away.
Research verse 70:17 →
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
and gathered and then stored up.
Research verse 70:18 →
إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
Indeed, the human being has been created [as] ever-fretful,
Research verse 70:19 →
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
When harm touches him, [he is] frantic.
Research verse 70:20 →
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
and when good touches him, [he is] withholding.
Research verse 70:21 →
إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
Except those who pray,
Research verse 70:22 →
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
Those who are constant upon their prayer,
Research verse 70:23 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
And those in whose wealth there is an acknowledged due,
Research verse 70:24 →
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
for the asker and the deprived
Research verse 70:25 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
and those who affirm as true the Day of Judgment
Research verse 70:26 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
and those who, regarding the punishment of their Lord, are apprehensive
Research verse 70:27 →
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not something to be felt secure from.
Research verse 70:28 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰفِظُونَ
And those who are guardians over their openings.
Research verse 70:29 →
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
except with their partners, or what their right hands possess; for then they are not blameworthy.
Research verse 70:30 →
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
So whoever seeks beyond that, then those – they are the ones who overstep the limits.
Research verse 70:31 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
And those who are caretakers of their trusts and their covenant
Research verse 70:32 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
And those who are steadfast upon their testimonies
Research verse 70:33 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
And those who are guardians over their prayer,
Research verse 70:34 →
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
Those — in gardens, they are honored.
Research verse 70:35 →
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
So what is [wrong] with those who have denied, before you, rushing forward,
Research verse 70:36 →
عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
from the right and from the left, in bands.
Research verse 70:37 →
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
Does every man among them aspire that he be made to enter a garden of bliss?
Research verse 70:38 →
كَلَّآ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
No indeed! We have created them from what they (themselves) know.
Research verse 70:39 →
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَ
So no indeed—I swear by the Lord of the points of rising and the points of setting: We are surely capable.
Research verse 70:40 →
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
for that We may replace [them] with better than them, and We are not ones who can be outstripped.
Research verse 70:41 →
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
So leave them, to plunge on and play, until they encounter their Day which they are promised.
Research verse 70:42 →
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
The Day they will come out from the graves, rushing, as though they were hurrying toward an erected monument.
Research verse 70:43 →
خَٰشِعَةً أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
Humbled are their eyes; abasement envelops them. That is the Day which they had been promised.
Research verse 70:44 →
