وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
By the star when it falls,
Research verse 53:1 →
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
Your companion has not strayed, nor has he been ruined in error.
Research verse 53:2 →
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
And he does not speak out of desire.
Research verse 53:3 →
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
It is nothing but an inspiration being inspired.
Research verse 53:4 →
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
One of mighty powers taught it to him,
Research verse 53:5 →
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
Possessor of firmness, then he became well‑poised.
Research verse 53:6 →
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
while he was at the highest horizon
Research verse 53:7 →
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
Then he drew near and so hung down.
Research verse 53:8 →
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
Then he was [at] a span of two bows, or nearer.
Research verse 53:9 →
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
Then He communicated to His servant what He communicated.
Research verse 53:10 →
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
The inner heart did not lie about what it saw.
Research verse 53:11 →
أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
So do you contend with him concerning what he sees?
Research verse 53:12 →
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
And indeed he saw him in another descent.
Research verse 53:13 →
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
by the lote tree of the utmost end
Research verse 53:14 →
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
Near it is the garden of the sheltering-abode.
Research verse 53:15 →
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
when there enshrouded the Lote Tree whatever enshrouded (it)
Research verse 53:16 →
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
The sight did not deviate, nor did it exceed [its bounds].
Research verse 53:17 →
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
He certainly saw, of the signs of his Lord, the greatest.
Research verse 53:18 →
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
So have you considered al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā
Research verse 53:19 →
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
And Manāt, the third, the later one—
Research verse 53:20 →
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
Is the male for you, and for Him the female?
Research verse 53:21 →
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
That, then, is a biased apportionment.
Research verse 53:22 →
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
They are nothing but names which you and your forefathers have called them—Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what the selves desire, though guidance has certainly come to them from their Lord.
Research verse 53:23 →
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
Or does the human have whatever he desires?
Research verse 53:24 →
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
So to Allah belongs the later one and the former.
Research verse 53:25 →
وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
And how many a messenger-being there is in the heavens: their intercession does not avail anything, except after Allah permits for whom He wills and is satisfied.
Research verse 53:26 →
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter surely label the angels with the designation of the female.
Research verse 53:27 →
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
And they have no knowledge of it; they follow nothing but conjecture, and indeed conjecture does not suffice in place of the truth in any way.
Research verse 53:28 →
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
So turn away from whoever has turned away from Our reminder and desires nothing but the nearer life of this world.
Research verse 53:29 →
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
That is the limit of their knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is the One who knows best who has sunk away from His path, and He knows best who has found guidance.
Research verse 53:30 →
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
And to God belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, in order that He may repay those who did evil with what they did, and that He may repay those who did good with the most excellent.
Research verse 53:31 →
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
Those who keep away from the great (grave) of the offence and the outrageous indecencies—except what merely brushes (them). Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He is most knowing of you when He brought you into being from the earth, and when you were concealed forms in the bellies of your mothers. So do not declare yourselves pure; He is most knowing of who has been wary (of Him).
Research verse 53:32 →
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
So have you considered the one who turned away,
Research verse 53:33 →
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
and gave a little, then cut off.
Research verse 53:34 →
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
Does he possess knowledge of the hidden, so that he (accordingly) perceives?
Research verse 53:35 →
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
Or has he not been informed about what is in the scriptures of Moses
Research verse 53:36 →
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
and of Abraham, the one who fulfilled completely,
Research verse 53:37 →
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
That no load-bearer will carry the load of another.
Research verse 53:38 →
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
And that the human being has nothing except what he has striven for,
Research verse 53:39 →
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
and that his striving will indeed be seen,
Research verse 53:40 →
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
Then he will be repaid for it with the most complete repayment.
Research verse 53:41 →
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
And that to your Lord is the utmost limit.
Research verse 53:42 →
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
And that it is He who made [people] laugh and [who] made [them] weep,
Research verse 53:43 →
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
And that it is He who causes to die and gives life
Research verse 53:44 →
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
And that it is He who created the two paired ones: the male and the female.
Research verse 53:45 →
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
from a sperm-drop, when it is poured out
Research verse 53:46 →
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
and that upon Him is the later bringing‑forth.
Research verse 53:47 →
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
And that it is He who enriches and grants possession.
Research verse 53:48 →
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
And that it is He who is the Lord of al‑Shi‘rā.
Research verse 53:49 →
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
And that it is He who caused the former ʿĀd to perish,
Research verse 53:50 →
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
And [likewise] Thamud – so He did not let [anyone of them] remain.
Research verse 53:51 →
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
And the people of Noah before—indeed, they were the ones more darkly unjust and more excessively transgressive.
Research verse 53:52 →
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
and the overturned (communities) He brought down,
Research verse 53:53 →
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
So there covered it what (truly) covered.
Research verse 53:54 →
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
So in which of the benefits of your Lord do you dispute?
Research verse 53:55 →
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
This is a warner from the earlier warnings.
Research verse 53:56 →
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
The Imminent [Event] has drawn near.
Research verse 53:57 →
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
It has no unveiler apart from Allah.
Research verse 53:58 →
أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
So is it then at this discourse that you are amazed?
Research verse 53:59 →
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
and you laugh and do not weep
Research verse 53:60 →
وَأَنتُمْ سَٰمِدُونَ
while you are heedlessly indulging.
Research verse 53:61 →
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟
So fall down in prostration to Allah, and serve Him.
