لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
No indeed, I swear by this settlement.
Research verse 90:1 →
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
while you are one who has settled in this city,
Research verse 90:2 →
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
And by a begetter and what he begets,
Research verse 90:3 →
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
We have indeed created the human being in hardship.
Research verse 90:4 →
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
Does he reckon that no one will ever have power over him?
Research verse 90:5 →
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
He says, “I have destroyed abundant wealth.”
Research verse 90:6 →
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
Does he reckon that no one has seen him?
Research verse 90:7 →
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
Have We not made for him two eyes,
Research verse 90:8 →
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
and a tongue and two lips,
Research verse 90:9 →
وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
And We guided him to the two high paths.
Research verse 90:10 →
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
Yet he has not hurled himself into the steep ascent.
Research verse 90:11 →
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
And what can make you know what the steep ascent is?
Research verse 90:12 →
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
(It is) the unbinding of a neck.
Research verse 90:13 →
أَوْ إِطْعَٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ
Or providing food on a day of famine
Research verse 90:14 →
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
an orphan of close kinship
Research verse 90:15 →
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
Or a poor person, one of dust.
Research verse 90:16 →
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
Then he was among those who had believed and had urged one another to endurance and had urged one another to compassion.

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
Those are the companions of the right-hand side.
Research verse 90:18 →
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
And those who covered up (the truth of) Our signs – they are the companions of the left-hand side.
Research verse 90:19 →
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
Upon them is a fire, shut in.
