وَٱلْفَجْرِ
By the dawn
Research verse 89:1 →
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
and by ten nights
Research verse 89:2 →
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ
And by the paired and the solitary,
Research verse 89:3 →
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
And by the night when it travels on,
Research verse 89:4 →
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ
Is there in that an oath for one endowed with restraint?
Research verse 89:5 →
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Have you not seen how your Lord acted with ʿĀd,
Research verse 89:6 →
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ
[of] Iram, possessor of the supports
Research verse 89:7 →
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ
the like of which had never been created in the lands,
Research verse 89:8 →
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ
And [with] Thamud, those who cut through the rock in the valley,
Research verse 89:9 →
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
And [with] Pharaoh, possessor of the stakes,
Research verse 89:10 →
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ
those who overflowed in rebellion throughout the lands
Research verse 89:11 →
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ
So they greatly multiplied corruption in it.
Research verse 89:12 →
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
So your Lord poured upon them a lash of punishment.
Research verse 89:13 →
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ
Indeed, your Lord is surely in ambush.
Research verse 89:14 →
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ
So as for the human, when his Lord tests him, then honors him and makes him live in ease, he says, “My Lord has honored me.”
Research verse 89:15 →
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَٰنَنِ
And as for when He tests him and constricts his provision, then he says, “My Lord has degraded me.”
Research verse 89:16 →
كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
No indeed! Rather, you do not show nobility toward the orphan,
Research verse 89:17 →
وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
and you do not urge one another toward the food of the needy.
Research verse 89:18 →
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
and you consume the inheritance with a devouring that gathers everything in.
Research verse 89:19 →
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
while you love wealth with an abundant love.
Research verse 89:20 →
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
No indeed! When the earth is pounded — pounding upon pounding,
Research verse 89:21 →
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
And your Lord came, and the angels [came] in rows upon rows,
Research verse 89:22 →
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
And Hell is brought that Day; on that Day the human will take heed—but how could the taking heed be for him?
Research verse 89:23 →
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
He will say, “If only I had sent ahead for my life!”
Research verse 89:24 →
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
So on that Day, no one will inflict his infliction.
Research verse 89:25 →
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
And none will bind with his binding.
Research verse 89:26 →
يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
O you, the tranquil self,
Research verse 89:27 →
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
Return to your Lord, satisfied and [yourself] approved.
Research verse 89:28 →
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَٰدِى
So enter among My servants
Research verse 89:29 →
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى
and enter My garden.
