إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
When the Event falls into place,
Research verse 56:1 →
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
There is, for its falling/occurrence, no liar.
Research verse 56:2 →
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
One that lowers, one that raises.
Research verse 56:3 →
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
When the earth is shaken with a violent shaking
Research verse 56:4 →
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
and the mountains are pulverized, utterly pulverized
Research verse 56:5 →
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
and so it became scattered dust.
Research verse 56:6 →
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَٰثَةً
and you will be [sorted into] three categories,
Research verse 56:7 →
فَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
So the companions of the right-hand side—what are the companions of the right-hand side?
Research verse 56:8 →
وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
And the companions of the left-hand side – what are the companions of the left-hand side?
Research verse 56:9 →
وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ
And the ones who advance ahead, the ones who advance ahead—
Research verse 56:10 →
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
Those are the ones brought near.
Research verse 56:11 →
فِى جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
in gardens of bliss.
Research verse 56:12 →
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
A company from the first ones,
Research verse 56:13 →
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
and a few from the later ones,
Research verse 56:14 →
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
Upon couches intricately joined.
Research verse 56:15 →
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ
Reclining upon them, facing one another.
Research verse 56:16 →
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
Young ones will circulate around them, made to remain.
Research verse 56:17 →
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a flowing spring,
Research verse 56:18 →
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
They will not be split with pain from it, nor will they be drained away by it.
Research verse 56:19 →
وَفَٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
And fruit from what they choose,
Research verse 56:20 →
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
And flesh of bird, from what they desire.
Research verse 56:21 →
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
And wide-eyed companions,
Research verse 56:22 →
كَأَمْثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
As likenesses of concealed pearls,
Research verse 56:23 →
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
A recompense for what they had been doing.
Research verse 56:24 →
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
They do not hear therein any vain talk, nor any causing of sin,
Research verse 56:25 →
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَٰمًا سَلَٰمًا
Except a saying: “Peace, peace.”
Research verse 56:26 →
وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
And the companions of the right – what are the companions of the right?
Research verse 56:27 →
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
In lote trees, de‑thorned
Research verse 56:28 →
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
And acacia trees, closely arrayed,
Research verse 56:29 →
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
And extended shade
Research verse 56:30 →
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
and water, poured forth
Research verse 56:31 →
وَفَٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
And plentiful fruit,
Research verse 56:32 →
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
Not cut off, nor withheld.
Research verse 56:33 →
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
And spread-out furnishings raised high,
Research verse 56:34 →
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
Indeed, We have brought them into being as a bringing-into-being.
Research verse 56:35 →
فَجَعَلْنَٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
so We made them ever‑new (as first‑timers).
Research verse 56:36 →
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
affectionate, of the same age
Research verse 56:37 →
لِّأَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
for the companions of the right
Research verse 56:38 →
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
A multitude from the earliest ones,
Research verse 56:39 →
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
and a multitude from the later ones,
Research verse 56:40 →
وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
And the companions of the left – what are the companions of the left?
Research verse 56:41 →
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
In a searing blast and boiling hot water,
Research verse 56:42 →
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
And shade from scorching gloom,
Research verse 56:43 →
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
neither cool nor noble
Research verse 56:44 →
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
Indeed, they had been, before that, luxuriating.
Research verse 56:45 →
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
and they used to persist upon the tremendous offense.
Research verse 56:46 →
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
And they used to say, “Is it that when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be ones resurrected?”
Research verse 56:47 →
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
And [even] our earliest forefathers?
Research verse 56:48 →
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
Say, “Indeed, the first ones and the last ones
Research verse 56:49 →
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
will certainly be gathered to the appointed time of a known day,
Research verse 56:50 →
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
Then indeed you, O you who are lost, you who deny,
Research verse 56:51 →
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
you will surely be eaters from a tree of zaqqūm,
Research verse 56:52 →
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
so you will be ones filling from it the bellies
Research verse 56:53 →
فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
Then you will drink over it from the scalding [boiling] water.
Research verse 56:54 →
فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
then you will be drinking with the drinking of the parched.
Research verse 56:55 →
هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
This is their provision on the Day of Recompense.
Research verse 56:56 →
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
We created you, so why, then, do you not affirm as true?
Research verse 56:57 →
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
So have you considered that which you emit as semen?
Research verse 56:58 →
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ
Is it you who create it, or are We the creators?
Research verse 56:59 →
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
We have determined death among you, and We are not ones who can be outstripped.
Research verse 56:60 →
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
so that We may replace [you] with others like you, and bring you into being in what you do not know.
Research verse 56:61 →
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
And you have certainly known the first bringing-into-being, so why, then, do you not take heed?
Research verse 56:62 →
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
So have you considered what you plough?
Research verse 56:63 →
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
Is it you who plant it, or are We the Planters?
Research verse 56:64 →
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَٰهُ حُطَٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
If We willed, We would surely make it crushed debris, and then you would go on expressing distress about it,
Research verse 56:65 →
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
indeed, we are ones made to incur loss
Research verse 56:66 →
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
No, rather, we are ones deprived.
Research verse 56:67 →
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
So have you considered the water that you drink?
Research verse 56:68 →
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
Is it you who sent it down from the rain-cloud, or are We the senders-down?
Research verse 56:69 →
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
If We willed, We could have made it intensely salty, so why then do you not show gratitude?
Research verse 56:70 →
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
So have you considered the fire that you kindle,
Research verse 56:71 →
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
Is it you who brought forth its tree, or are We the bringers-forth?
Research verse 56:72 →
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
We have made it a reminder and an enjoyment for those in need.
Research verse 56:73 →
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
So glorify by the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
Research verse 56:74 →
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
So I surely swear by the placements of the stars,
Research verse 56:75 →
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
And indeed, it is surely an oath—if you (only) knew—tremendous.
Research verse 56:76 →
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
Indeed, it is surely a generous Recital.
Research verse 56:77 →
فِى كِتَٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
in a concealed writing
Research verse 56:78 →
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
None touches it except those who have been purified.
Research verse 56:79 →
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
A sending-down from the Lord of the worlds.
Research verse 56:80 →
أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
So is it then with this discourse that you are being complacent?
Research verse 56:81 →
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
and you make your provision that you are denying.
Research verse 56:82 →
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
So then, when it reaches the throat—
Research verse 56:83 →
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
while you, at that very time, are looking on,
Research verse 56:84 →
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
while We are nearer to him than you, but you do not perceive.
Research verse 56:85 →
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
So then, if you are not ones who will be judged,
Research verse 56:86 →
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ
you (all) restore it, if you are truthful.
Research verse 56:87 →
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
So then, if he was among those brought near,
Research verse 56:88 →
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
then (for him is) relief, and sweet freshness, and a garden of delight.
Research verse 56:89 →
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
And as for if he was from the companions of the right,
Research verse 56:90 →
فَسَلَٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
then well‑being to you, from the companions of the right.
Research verse 56:91 →
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
And as for if he was among the deniers, the strayers,
Research verse 56:92 →
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
then a reception of boiling liquid,
Research verse 56:93 →
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
and exposure to a blazing Fire
Research verse 56:94 →
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
Indeed, this is the truth of certainty.
Research verse 56:95 →
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
So declare the transcendence of the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
