Surah Ghafir (40:22)

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَكَفَرُوا۟ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

That is because their messengers used to come to them with the clear evidences, but they covered over [the truth], so Allah seized them; indeed, He is strong, severe in retribution.
