Surah Ali 'Imran (3:167)
وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ قَٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدْفَعُوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَّٱتَّبَعْنَٰكُمْ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَٰنِ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ
and so that He may make known those who acted with hypocrisy. And it was said to them, “Come up: engage in fighting in the path of Allah, or (at least) repel (the enemy).” They said, “If we knew (there would be) fighting, we would surely have followed you.” They, on that day, were nearer to denial than to trust. They say with their mouths what is not in their hearts, and Allah is most knowing of what they conceal.
