Surah Ali 'Imran (3:159)

فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ وَلَوْ كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ ٱلْقَلْبِ لَٱنفَضُّوا۟ مِنْ حَوْلِكَ فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ

So it was by a mercy from Allah that you were gentle toward them; and if you had been coarse, hard of heart, they would surely have broken away from around you. So forgo them, and seek forgiveness for them, and consult them in the matter; then when you have resolved, rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely (upon Him).
