Strong, Eminent in might — closing pair
قَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌ
qawiyyun ʿazīzun — Strong, Eminent in might / strong, mighty
In both verses given, the pair قَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌ closes a statement about Allah's messengers prevailing or being supported, grounding the outcome each verse states in Allah's strength and might.
Both verses given end with the identical pair قَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌ, two indefinite masculine singular nominative adjectives, and in both the pair follows the particle إِنَّ with the name Allah. In (57:25) the verse recounts that Allah sent messengers with clear proofs, sent down the Book and the balance, and sent down iron, "in which there is intense might and benefits for people", and states the purpose "so that Allah may make known who supports Him and His messengers in the unseen". The closing pair names the strength behind that making-known of who supports Him and His messengers: the verse itself has just spoken of بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ in iron, and the pair attributes strength and might to Allah. In (58:21) the verse quotes Allah's decree, "I and My messengers shall indeed prevail", and the pair immediately grounds that decree: prevailing is tied to the one who is strong and mighty. In both verses the pair stands at the end and looks back at what precedes: in (57:25) at the sending of messengers, the iron with its might, and the making-known of who supports Allah's messengers; in (58:21) at the decree of victory for Allah and His messengers. The shared context in the two verses is messengers and prevailing or supporting, and in each the pair closes by naming the divine strength and might that stands behind that outcome. The pair is identical in Arabic in both verses; only the translation wording differs ("Strong, Eminent in might" in 57:25, "strong, mighty" in 58:21).
