al-Ṣiḥāḥ
الصحاح
al-Jawharī · d. 393 AH (1002–3 CE) or c. 400 AH (c. 1010 CE); disputed · Rhyme-ordered general dictionary
Al-Jawharī's preface is only a few lines long. Among its claims, two define the book: it holds only what "was sound in my judgement", and its arrangement is new. What you meet on our site are compact entries that name their authorities, show a grammarian's interest in how words are built, and leave much out. The title promises soundness, as one scholar judged it, not completeness.
