al-Mufradāt fī Gharīb al-Qurʾān
المفردات في غريب القرآن
al-Rāghib al-Iṣfahānī · early 11th century CE (death date disputed) · Dictionary of Qurʾānic words
Al-Rāghib al-Iṣfahānī built his dictionary around the words of a single book. Many entries open with a plain, often physical sense and then follow the word from verse to verse; in some he also explains how a sense was borrowed, extended or narrowed, or how the word differs from its near neighbours. That makes the Mufradāt a good place to watch a word at work across the Qur'an. It also means lexicon and commentary share the page, sometimes in a single sentence.
